After reading such awesome reviews on this site I decided to take the plunge and order a couple of things from the wonderful selection The Body Bakery offers. I decided to go with the Jelly Donuts scent for a hair spritzer and the Fresh Baked Bread for a whipped butter. Unfortunately these both smelled pretty disgusting and fake, with undertones of plastic (kinda like those plastic strawberry shortcake dolls used to smell!).  The Baked Bread one in particular is REALLY unappealing and overwhelming … unfortunately I cant even stomach the smell enough to try out the actual product – it might be the most moisturizing cream in the world but I will never know!

I am sure they have some outstanding scents as there are so many positive reviews out there about the accuracy of the scent to the real thing, and I would be soooooo willing to give them another try if there were $1 or $2 samples available – that way you cant be too bummed out when it smells like crap cause you only payed a small amount. But they recommend getting the $5 whipped butters to “try” the scents out, and I think that is pretty freakin’ expensive especially if it smells disgusting and is now an unusable product, that is $5 plus shipping down the drain … or into landfill!

I think the really disappointing thing is that they aren’t cheap if they turn out to be duds and with a no return policy that is doubly sucky! Overall I was really disappointed with my purchase and cant afford $5 a pop (plus shipping) to give them another try even though there about 20 flavors I would love to try out!

F: Scent true to name and description – ick!
A: Concept – great idea and very useful product
B: Packaging – Convenient and worked well, logo is fun but the rest of design is a little dated looking. The web site is looking GREAT after a recent update though!
D: Price – reasonable if the scent rocked but expensive because it didnt!
F: No returns

OVERALL RATING: D –

First things first the smell of the lavender is very strong and lingers in the air for quite a while. I could not smell the chamomile, but the main smell that remains on your skin after about 10 mins is the natural shea butter smell, which is definitely an acquired taste. I dont mind it but it is a strong nutty/seedy/oily kind of smell that really lingers for a LONG time (hours) after application.

I have to admit I was disappointed with this product upon application because I read many reviews that said that it was not greasy, and boy was it greasy!!! I work on a computer all day so whenever I use a product that leaves my hands greasy my keyboard gets greasy, my mouse gets greasy …etc. BUT, that aside I have to say if you can survive the 10-15 mins it takes for that residue to go away it is well worth it, it makes your hands super soft and smooth just as promised. I am going to move this product to my beside and use it just before sleep for overnight moisturizing because I have a real problem with the oily after feel.

OK, so I am always on the search for a good natural deodorant, I have tried MANY and although they all work to some degree it is all about re-application. I hate having to lug around a deodorant with me during summer and I also feel like should not have to reapply if it is doing its job, but unfortunately it is just the nature of some of these aluminum free natural brands because they do not halt the moisture they just combat the smell, so if it is a formula that is not terribly powerful you are gonna have to keep reapplying it to refresh the power.

This stuff is freakin’ awesome! It lasts all day and keeps you smelling fresh, well maybe not exactly fresh more like not smelling at all 🙂  Although it totally rocks I must admit there are a few little cons to be aware of which are:

  • It is a little florally smelling, although it does fade.
  • The tub is a bummer, I have discovered that the easiest way to use is to buy one of those teardrop shaped makeup sponges and just smear some on with that, otherwise it gets all over your hands and under your nails 😦

I would have to say that it is one of the best natural type deodorant that I have tried. I buy mine from iHerb.com which is an AWESOME online resource for a lot of natural and organic products at very competitive prices and cheap shipping on small orders because you can choose to ship USPS which is sometimes only a couple of dollars! If it is your first time buying with them make sure to use this coupon code: NAH748 because it will give $5 off your first order , there is no minimum purchase so its like $5 worth of goods for free!!! Woot!

Oh I forgot to mention that Now Foods also has another deodorant that claims to be just as good and it is in stick form, I als0 purchased this one and it definitely does NOT have the staying power of the cream/tub one, it is still very good and I use it regularly in winter cause I don’t need as much power but for summer it is not a lasting product 😦

I have quite dry skin and this last product sounded like a dream come true! But unfortunately it is not as great as it sounds, I guess it does moisturize but it isn’t anything fantastic, and there is zero scent which was also a disappointment becuase doesn’t it just sound delicious! I mean I don’t want to smell like a florist or bakery when I get out out of the shower but I like the idea of some yummy scent whilst I am in the shower, and this product is so flat you hardly know you are using it. The lather is quite good when used with a loofa, but overall I don’t think much of it as a good moisturizing body wash.
